The Domus da Escola Velha da Sé preserves traces of a Roman dwelling in the Italic tradition.
See more +During the 1960s, archaeological excavations carried out in the cloister of the Santiago Seminary building, under the coordination of Canon Luciano dos Santos, led to the identification of the remains of an ancient Roman domus.
Among the elements uncovered is the peristyle of the house, which includes a small mosaic-covered tank flanked by terracotta tiles. The mosaic, dating from the 3rd or 4th centuries, features motifs inspired by marine fauna. There are also traces of a private bath belonging to the house from the same period.
