
The convent of São Francisco is a building attached to the Church of São Jerónimo and the Chapel of São Frutuoso.
See more +It is one of the symbols of Baroque architecture and one of the greatest attractions in the city of Braga. The Palácio do Raio, or Casa do Mexicano, has more than 250 years of history and, since 2015, has been open to the public as the Interpretive Center of the Memories of Misericórdia de Braga.
With ten themed sections, from sacred art to painting, sculpture, ceramics or goldsmithery, here you can discover and contemplate the multi-century history of the Santa Casa, in a permanent collection presented in an interactive way, involving the visitor in all the architectural and artistic beauty of the building.
Its typically Portuguese blue and white tiles are one of the ex-libris of the Palácio do Raio, which invites visitors to learn about the history of the Brotherhood and Misericórdia de Braga, especially its role in supporting the needy.
Here you can also discover some of the elements that recall the traditional procession of Senhor Ecce Homo during Holy Week, such as the processional lanterns and flags, the farricoco and the bonfires.
The last entry is 30 minutes before the closing time of the Palacio do Raio.
