See more +The construction of the São Marcos Hospital, the main home for pilgrims and those with serious illnesses, dates back to 1508. Later, in the 18th century, by the hands of the architect Carlos Amarante, the building underwent a major extension, extending to the church of São Marcos, with the side bodies designed and built by José Fernandes da Graça, who was in charge of the stonework and sculpture designed by the architect responsible. In front of the church you can see the statue of the Apostle St. Mark and, inside, visit the tomb with his relics.
Recently, the north pavilion of the building, with the exception of the Church of São Marcos, the Chapel of São Bento and the Farmácia da Misericórdia, was turned into a hotel.
