Built in an alignment of mountains (Serra do Carvalho, Serra dos Picos, Monte do Sameiro and Monte de Santa Marta), where some of the main sanctuaries of Minho/Northern Portugal were built, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Madalena, a religious place of pilgrimage with great popular devotion, dates back to the 18th century and is an ex-libris of André Soares' work.
It is an ex-libris of the work of this remarkable architect and an example of the Baroque religious style. Due to its historical, religious and architectural interest, it has been a National Monument since 2016.
