
The Church of São Francisco was built by Archbishop D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles in the first half of the 18th century.
See more +According to popular belief, the church was built in honor of Saint Margaret, but at the beginning of the 18th century, the brotherhood of Our Lady of Guadalupe, with the support of Archbishop Rodrigo Moura Teles, replaced it. The simplicity of its interior and the high altarpiece designed in the rococo style by André Soares, with carving and polychrome work in shades of blue, white, green and gold, are essential viewing.
