See more +The monument commemorating April 25, inaugurated on April 25, 1993, was erected by the Braga City Council to celebrate Freedom and Democracy and installed at the end of Avenida da Liberdade, next to the São João da Ponte park.
Designed by architects João Rapagão and César Fernandes and sculptor José Rodrigues, the monument represents a huge bronze banner that resembles a flag flying in the wind and features a naked woman sculpted at one end.
The banner is set into a granite wall and contains two carved inscriptions, one at the bottom of the front which reads "25 DE ABRIL" and the other on the opposite side, which reads "LIBERTY AND DEMOCRACY". The monument stands on a marble mast and is part of a stone wall that blends into the sidewalk.
