Representing the antithesis of Classicism, its predecessor, the Baroque is presented, roughly speaking, as untimely, exuberant and emotional, and was essentially reflected in the architecture, painting and sculpture of the period.
Braga became the epicenter of Baroque manifestations in Portugal in the 17th/18th centuries, with D. José de Bragança (brother of D. João V) and D. Rodrigo Moura Teles, and the artists André Soares, Marceliano de Araújo and Frei José Vilaça as the main protagonists.

'Braga Barroca' revives this golden period in the history of the city of Braga, seeking to recreate all the economic, cultural, social and religious effervescence experienced during this period, through the various activities organized.
