The store
Lusitana is a privileged space and a brand with blue letters. It is located on Rua Justino Cruz, where it subtly faces the Jardim de Sta. Bárbara, one of the most beautiful gardens in the city of Braga. It occupies the entire first floor of a corner building with architectural value. A project dating back to the 1950s, it enhances the building by adapting it to its surroundings with a fully glazed front. The interior has a charming atmosphere. The decoration has many references to the original tea room. A vocation that is still maintained today, although there is still some doubt in the air. What kind of tea is served in the teapot?

History
The history of Lusitana cannot be dissociated from the history of the famous Lusitana Bakery, in Rua de S. João, which was present in the city from 1896 (mentioned in the Braga Commercial Yearbook) until it closed at the beginning of the 20th century. The owners of the bakery decided to open a tea room in 1955, taking advantage of the opening of Rua Justino Cruz and the redevelopment of the area around the Sta. Bárbara garden. The firm Oliveira, Malheiro e Gonçalves took over the management of this new space, which as well as serving confectionery was also a bakery. In 1960, one of the partners, José Barbosa de Oliveira, took over the running of Lusitana, a position he held until 1988.
Lusitana is an example of how stores can renew themselves. A stage of success for decades, it was going through a troubled period when, in 2011, its current owner, the firm Viana & Pinheiro, Lda. looked for an answer to honor tradition. Today, we can still enjoy the excellent pastries, made in-house, but also have a light meal on the terrace while gazing at the flowers in the garden.
