The Caminho Minhoto Ribeiro is one of the oldest routes linking the cities of Braga and Santiago de Compostela. Its route is closely associated with the protohistoric settlements of the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the castros.
Approximately 260 km long, the Minhoto Ribeiro Way is based on four differentiating elements: history, nature, thermalism and wine are factors that make it not only unique, but also truly singular. It crosses a rich cultural and natural heritage, including hospitals, monasteries, churches, chapels, cruises, medieval and Roman bridges, historic wineries, archaeological finds and thermal springs.
Its uniqueness is also reflected in the three possible entrances to the route. The main route starts in Braga and heads towards Vila Verde, Ponte da Barca, Arcos de Valdevez, Monção, crossing the border in Melgaço; the second also starts in Braga, and arriving in Ponte da Barca, continues through Lindoso; the third starts in Terras de Bouro. These last two join the main route from Castro Laboreiro.
The Caminho Minhoto Ribeiro passes through Portuguese and Spanish municipalities, revealing to pilgrims emblematic landscapes from both countries.
