It is a typical sweet from Braga, created between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. It is a festive, pilgrimage sweet, traditionally eaten in honor of the feasts of S. Vicente, on January 22, in honor of Senhora das Candeias, and on March 19, for the feasts of S. José, celebrating Father's Day.
During the pilgrimages, in the parishes of S. Vicente and S. José de S. Lázaro, it is common to see several vendors selling Moletinhos next to the churches.
