Located at 31 Rua Nova de Santa Cruz, a few meters from the University of Minho, Casa Académica is a benchmark in the manufacture of academic, legal, doctoral and brotherhood costumes, combining innovation and tradition, offering tailor-made services for a variety of formal outfits.
Casa Académica is a company dedicated to selling and making various types of clothing. It was founded in the 1940s by José Monteiro Gonçalves and was run by him as a tailor shop from 1940 to 1996.
History
Casa Académica is one of the oldest shops in the city of Braga.
Initially, he was dedicated to producing and selling uniforms and suits. Later, José Monteiro Gonçalves designed, produced and marketed the student costume for the University of Minho, as well as the doctoral costume, at which point he passed the business on to his son Carlos Alberto Gonçalves.
Under the management of Carlos Alberto Gonçalves, Casa Académica specialized in academic costumes. Since 2010, management has passed to the third generation and Rita Barros Gonçalves. Initially, the academic tradition was maintained, but there was a move towards other areas that could use the know-how that Casa Académica has, namely tailoring.
Products and services
Legal costumes (togas for lawyers, solicitors and judges' robes), brotherhood costumes, doctoral costumes, academic articles (such as tailor-made gowns with protocols with universities, emblems, pins, etc.), with its own brand Gatémia® (a brand of capes for women and children), has a partnership with Namorar Portugal through the brand Gatémia Namorar Portugal.
