The store
On Rua dos Chãos, in a corner building with vibrant colors, we find Farmácia Lima. The shop windows don't go unnoticed, as they regularly feature themed decorations... It's a modern and very functional space, but at its heart modernity is interrupted, forcing the eye to go back in time. The story unfolds with a small "museum", and the memory of the old apothecaries appears in the form of instruments and utensils needed to prepare medicines, as well as bottles and jars of drugs and medicines.
History
Farmácia Lima opened its doors as Farmácia Pereira Castilho on Rua Cândido dos Reis, now Rua dos Chãos. Little is known about the beginnings of this pharmacy. The first record found is Amarino Pereira Castilho's registration, in May 1927, as a member of the Braga District Pharmacists' Union. There is no news of the Pereira Castilho Pharmacy until 1940, when its operating license was issued. That same year, Amarino Pereira Castilho, as director of the pharmacy, became a member of the National Pharmacists' Union. The reason for the name change is unknown, but from 1943 onwards, Farmácia Lima can be found in the Anuários do Comércio de Braga, although the new name was only registered on the operating license in 1950.
In June 1950, according to a deed of transfer, ownership of the pharmacy passed to Isaura de Assunção Costa Ferreira and in 1989, the license stated that ownership passed to pharmacist Maria da Graça Alves Leite de Castro Mota Fonseca.
Since 1990, Carlos Alberto Sá Esteves, the current owner, has continued the history of Farmácia Lima.
