With origins dating back to the 15th century, perhaps even earlier, Caldo Verde is typically from Minho and is made with kale, which is very typical in Portugal. It's a soup designed to satiate the population, especially on cold nights and at Minho festivals.
Caldo Verde is typically presented in a clay bowl, with cabbage cut into thin strips, potatoes and, the ex-libris, a slice of chorizo, which is only added when the soup is already served in the bowl.
