See more +It could have been a dwelling place for Kings and Queens, the most important element still visible in the old Castle of Braga - built by King Dinis - the Keep has been classified as a National Monument since 1910 and, since 2017, has been an interpretive center for the History of Braga.
Apart from the imposing keep, you can still see parts of the old castle, which was demolished in 1905. There is also another tower that served as the belfry of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Lapa and the Gothic door of the castle inside a restaurant. You can also see some ruins of one of its towers inside a commercial space in Praça da República.
In addition, several sections of the wall that marked its boundaries are still present, integrated and partially hidden in the buildings that have been erected.
